Amman is preparing to welcome international travelers through a second major gateway as Amman Civil Airport (Marka Airport) gears up to reopen within days. According to Ahmad Azzam, Director General of the Jordan Airports Company, all technical and safety preparations have been completed and the airport is now awaiting final approval from the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission. The long-awaited license is expected by the end of the month.

The reopening will roll out in phases, beginning with official licensing and followed by operational activation as airlines add flights to their schedules. A formal inauguration is expected later on.
Once open, Amman Civil Airport will begin receiving international flights from across the Middle East and Europe, making travel to Jordan more accessible—especially for foreign visitors looking for convenient and affordable routes. The airport will act as a secondary hub to Queen Alia International Airport, easing congestion and providing a budget-friendly option for both airlines and passengers.
Designed to handle up to 1 million travelers a year, the airport will accommodate medium-sized aircraft typically used by low-cost carriers. Operational costs are anticipated to be lower, which could translate to cheaper flights for travelers. Discussions are already underway with major budget airlines such as Wizz Air, Ryanair, Flynas, and Air Cairo, with flights expected to begin early next year once the carriers conclude current commitments at Queen Alia.
Infrastructure improvements are also in motion, with local authorities enhancing road access and traffic flow around the airport to ensure a smooth travel experience.
Jordan’s Prime Minister, Jafar Hassan, has highlighted the reopening as an important step toward boosting tourism and economic growth—great news for international travelers eager to explore this extraordinary country.
