AMMAN — One of Jordan’s most anticipated cultural events is set to return this summer as the 40th edition of the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts takes place from July 22 to August 2, transforming the ancient city of Jerash into a vibrant stage for music, art, heritage, and entertainment.
Held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, this landmark edition marks four decades of the festival’s contribution to Jordan’s cultural scene and promises visitors an enhanced experience that blends history, creativity, and tourism.
Taking place under the theme "A Legacy That Endures… Generations Unite," the festival will feature more than 207 events across Jerash and several locations throughout Jordan. Visitors can enjoy a diverse programme that includes concerts, theatrical performances, poetry readings, literary evenings, art exhibitions, folklore shows, and cultural presentations from Jordan and abroad.
Over the years, the Jerash Festival has become one of the Arab world's leading cultural celebrations, attracting artists, performers, and audiences from across the region. This year's edition aims to build on that reputation by offering new attractions and interactive experiences designed to appeal to visitors of all ages.
Beyond its artistic programme, the festival is placing greater emphasis on tourism and visitor engagement. Organisers have redesigned the festival experience to encourage guests to spend more time exploring Jerash’s archaeological treasures, local culture, and hospitality offerings.
Among the highlights debuting this year are 3D projection mapping displays on historic monuments, specially curated marketplaces showcasing local products and crafts, family-friendly entertainment zones, dedicated dining and relaxation areas, and a range of interactive cultural activities.
Festival organisers say these additions are intended to transform a visit to Jerash into a complete cultural and tourism journey rather than simply attending performances.
Adding an international dimension to the celebrations, Qatar will participate as the festival’s Guest of Honour, presenting a series of events that showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage and strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
The festival is also expected to provide a boost to local tourism and businesses by attracting Jordanian, Arab, and international visitors. Through partnerships with public and private sector organisations, the event supports local artisans, entrepreneurs, and tourism operators while promoting Jerash as a year-round destination.
