History , Nature and religion have never combined more perfectly to make a country so unique and spectacular as it did with Jordan : From the Persians to the Faros , and from the Greeks to the Romans who have been here in Jordan in some parts of history , and with all the prophets that were mentioned in the Bible and the holy quran from Mohammad to Moses and from Jesus the christ to John the Baptist , they either lived, passed through or died on this land , and from Petra with the deep history and amazing canyons to Wadi Rum with the highest mountains in Jordan and the Reddest sand dunes that you could ever see and feel as if you were taken into another planet , to Jerash & Umm Qais with the largest standing Greek and Roman ruins in the world , to the lowest point on earth at the Dead sea, and there is a lot to see in between
You may have seen Petra in a photo or video; or listened to your friends talking about it, you may have even heard different stories and even read some books; but all this will just fade away when you really see it first time with your eyes; as if you have never seen it before - you won’t really believe what this is about till you see it with your own eyes; Read more and come to see Petra today; you won’t regret it.
Petra was chosen as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World" not just for the beauty of it’s rose-colored sandstone, and not just for it’s setting in the midst of about 100 ruggedly dramatic square kilometers of Wadi Araba, but because this area is a living museum of 10,000 years of human history. From the Neolithic village at al-Beidha, to Sela, the capital of the Edomites, thought to be located on top of Umm al-Biyara, to the incredible Nabatean creations in Petra proper, the Roman and Byzantine additions, and the local Bedouins, Petra's history tells the story of many civilizations.
Long a crossroads for trader Petra's architecture shows Assyrian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences. In fact, the word "Petra" is derived from the Greek word for rock. Excavations tell us that nearby al-Beidha was a prosperous village 9,000 years ago, contemporaneous with Jericho. The next residents in the area were the Edomites, biblical mountain-dwellers who battled for their freedom from the Judeans.
